Judge Michele A. Ouimet-Rooke: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Michele A. Ouimet-Rooke is an associate justice of the Springfield District Court in Massachusetts. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Charlie Baker in 2016.

Ouimet-Rooke received a bachelor’s degree (1985) and a master’s degree in education (1992) from Springfield College. She went on to complete a J.D. at Western New England College in 1999.

Prior to beginning her legal career, Ouimet-Rooke worked for several years as a victim/witness advocate with the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office (1991 to 1998). Then, after graduating from law school, she became an assistant district attorney assigned to the Springfield District Court in Hampden County. Ouimet-Rooke remained in that capacity until becoming chief prosecutor in the Chicopee District Court in 2001, though her time in that position would be brief.

The following year, Ouimet-Rooke left the public sector to join Doherty, Wallace, Pillsbury & Murphy, P.C. as an associate. Her practice at the firm included employment law, discrimination law, premise liability, insurance defense, product liability, landlord/tenant issues, criminal defense and business litigation. Ouimet-Rooke became a shareholder at the firm in 2013 and a hiring partner in 2014.

Her memberships included the Hampden County Bar Association (Board of Directors), the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Women’s Bar Association.

Ouimet-Rooke also served on the Hampden County Bar Association’s By-Laws Committee (co-chair), Fee Dispute Arbitration Committee (co-chair), District Court Bench Bar Committee, Education/Professional Development Committee, and Lawyer Information Referral Service Committee.

Ouimet-Rooke is a native of Springfield, Massachusetts. Her father was a Springfield firefighter and her mother worked for an insurance company.
