Judge Michael T. Hall - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Michael T. Hall is a judge for the Ohio Second District Court of Appeals in Ohio. He was elected to the seat on November 2, 2010 and re-elected in 2016.

During his tenure on the Court of Appeals, Hall has served as a visiting judge on the Ohio Supreme Court.

Prior to his election, he presided as a judge for the General Division of the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas, a position to which he was appointed by former Governor Bob Taft in 1999. While on the Court of Common Pleas, Hall served as its administrative judge and was credited with helping to integrate the court’s e-filing system. Before that, he was a judge for the Montgomery County District Court (Area II) for one year beginning in 1997.

He received a B.S. from the University of Dayton in 1975. While attending university, Hall worked as a police officer for the City of Dayton (1970 to 1976). He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Dayton School of Law in 1979. While a law student, Hall was an associate editor of the University of Dayton Law Review.

He was admitted to the Ohio Bar (1979) and Florida Bar (1983) as well as the Federal Bar for the Southern District of Ohio (1979).

Prior to beginning his judicial career, Hall had worked as a private practice attorney for twenty years. This included practicing as a senior partner in the law firm of Hall, Tucker, Fullenkamp & Singer.

His memberships have included the American Bar Association, the Ohio Bar Association, the Dayton Bar Association (former treasurer), the Montgomery County Trial Lawyers Association (past president), and the Carl D. Kessler Inn of Court (past president). He was also appointed to serve as a member of the Capital Case Attorney Fee Council.

While on the Court of Appeals, Hall has taught the Appellate track of the New Judges Orientation.
