Biography

Hon. Michael Spencer is a commissioner for the Grays Harbor County Superior Court in Washington. He was appointed to the position by the Grays Harbor County Superior Court judges in August 2019.

During his tenure as commissioner, Spencer has held an assignment in the Involuntary Treatment Act Court.

He returned to the bench after previously presiding as a judge for the Superior Court in Grays Harbor County. Spencer was first elected to the seat in 1987 and was subsequently re-elected in 1992. He then entered into private practice at Brown, Lewis, Janhunen & Spencer the following year.

After leaving the firm in 2018, Spencer sat as a pro tem judge and court commissioner.

He completed a J.D. at Gonzaga University School of Law in 1976.

Following his graduation, Spencer relocated to Grays Harbor in 1977, at which time he joined the Grays Harbor County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. During his tenure there, he worked as a deputy prosecuting attorney, chief criminal deputy prosecutor, and later as the twice-elected Prosecuting Attorney.
