Biography

Hon. Michael Piontek (Ret.) was a judge for the Racine County Circuit Court in the Second Judicial District of Wisconsin. He was elected to the bench in 2012. Piontek retired on April 9, 2021.


Prior to beginning his judicial career, he had worked in private practice in Racine since 1977. Piontek also sat as a commissioner for the Racine County Circuit Court (1978 to 2000) and spent two years as an assistant district attorney with the Racine County District Attorney’s Office (1975 to 1977). Before becoming a prosecutor, Piontek worked briefly as an assistant corporation counsel in Racine County (1974 to 1975).


He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Piontek went on to complete a J.D. at Marquette University Law School.


He served as a member of the Racine County Bar Association Board of Governors. Piontek was also elected to the Racine Unified School District Board of Education and sat as a board member of the Jaycees, Racine County Civil Legal Services, St. Rita’s Parish, the YMCA, and Group Foster Homes, Inc.


He was named State of Wisconsin Attorney of the Year in 1996.


Piontek, one of seven children, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended Boy’s Tech High School and worked as a lifeguard for the Milwaukee County Parks Department to help fund his education. One of his hobbies has included making maple syrup.
