Biography

The Hon. Michael L. Landrum is a judge for the 164th District Court in Harris County, Texas. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Greg Abbott on August 21, 2020, filling a vacancy created by the suspension of the Hon. Alexandra Smoots-Thomas.

Prior to his appointment, Landrum worked as an attorney, mediator, and arbitrator at Clark Hill Strasburger. Before that, he was a judge for the 113th District Court of Texas (2013 to 2018), a tax master for the Harris County District Court (1994 to 2010), and an attorney in private practice. Over the course of his legal career, he represented businesses in matters involving transactional, litigation, and appellate matters.

Landrum earned a B.A. in political science from the University of St. Thomas. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Texas School of Law in 1976. He is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law and Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

His memberships have included the Litigation Section, the Construction Section, and the Appellate Section of the State Bar of Texas as well as the Houston Bar Association, the Texas Association of Civil Trial & Appellate Specialists, and the College of the State Bar of Texas. He has also sat on the American Arbitration Association Construction Arbitrator Panel and Commercial Arbitrator Panel.

Landrum is a continuing education lecturer for the Houston Bar Association, a former board member of the Houston Young Lawyers Association, and a former adjunct professor at Houston Baptist University.

He is registered as a Republican.
