Biography

The Hon. Michael J. McLaughlin is a judge for the Superior Court of El Dorado County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown on October 11, 2018, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. James R. Wagoner.

McLaughlin earned a B.B.A. from Loyola Marymount University. He then completed a J.D. from Loyola Law School.

He began his legal career working as an associate with a number of different firms. These included Girardi Keese; the Law Offices of Donald B. Caffrey; Robinson, DiLando and Whitaker; and Porter, Groff and Lodwick. Then, in 1998, he relocated to El Dorado County, where he joined Feldman, Shaw and DeVore as an associate. He practiced there for the next thirteen years, staying with the firm through its various iterations. He eventually became a named partner in 2007, a position he held until his appointment to the bench.

McLaughlin is registered as a Democrat.
