Judge Michael A. Frishman: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Michael A. Frishman is a justice of the Bronx County Supreme Court in the 12th Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the seat in 2023.

The 12th Judicial District encompasses Bronx County. Frishman has held an assignment in the Medical Malpractice Part of the Civil Term. He began his judicial career as a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York in Bronx County, following his election to the bench in 2020. Frishman was quickly designated to the Bronx County Criminal Court in 2020 and then to the Bronx County Family Court in 2021. Then, in 2022, he was appointed to serve as an acting justice of the Bronx County Supreme Court by Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence Marks.

Prior to his judicial career, Frishman spent ten years as a principal law clerk with the New York State Unified Court System. He began as a principal law clerk to the Hon. Barry Salman in 2010 and later to the Hon. Wilma Guzman in 2015 with the New York Supreme Court.

Frishman received a B.A. from Muhlenberg College in 2003. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Miami School of Law in 2006.

Early in his legal career, Frishman handled medical malpractice and general negligence litigation as a private practice attorney. He also taught as an adjunct professor at New York Medical College and was a judicial mentor through the Franklin H. Williams Judicial Commission. In addition, Frishman was involved with the Bronx Community Board #8 and sat as a member of the Gender Fairness Committee for the 12th Judicial District.

His other memberships include vice president of the Jewish Lawyers Guild and the Board of Directors of the Puerto Rico Bar Association.

Frishman is registered as a Democrat.
