Biography

Overview

The Hon. Mena Guirguis is a judge for the Orange County Superior Court in California[1]. Guirguis was appointed to the bench by Governor Gavin Newsom on October 18, 2023, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Derek W. Hunt[2].

Since taking the bench, his assignments have included the Family Law Panel at the Lamoreaux Justice Center[3].

Educational background

Guirguis earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. At Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, he completed a J.D. He was admitted to the State Bar of California (2006).

Career history

After graduating from law school, Guirguis began his legal career as a deputy district attorney with the Office of the Orange County District Attorney, serving there from 2006 to 2023. During that tenure, he rose to senior deputy district attorney and assistant head of the felony panel.

His professional activities also included leadership of the Orange County Attorneys Association, where he served as vice president in 2014[4]. In 2020, he served as president of the association and represented it in public statements on issues affecting prosecutors[5].

Personal life

At the time of his appointment, Guirguis was a resident of Orange County. Outside the courtroom, he served on the board of the Arab American Lawyers Association of Southern California for the May 2023 to 2025 term[6].
