Biography

The Hon. Megan L. Bickerton is a judge for the General Division of Columbiana County Court of Common Pleas in Ohio. She was elected to the bench on November 6, 2018, becoming the first female to sit as a common pleas judge in the county.

Bickerton earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and psychology from the University of Pittsburgh in 2003. She then completed a J.D. at the Ohio Northern University, Claude W. Pettit College of Law in 2006. As a law student, Bickerton was a judicial extern for the Hon. Joseph Niemeyer of the Hancock County Court of Common Pleas as well as a law clerk at Drake, Phillips, Kuenzli & Clark.

After graduating from law school, Bickerton began her legal career as an assistant prosecuting attorney for the Medina County Prosecutor’s Office. She started in the Juvenile Court, handling all felony and misdemeanor cases in the county. Then, in 2011, she transferred to the Columbiana County Prosecutor’s Office, where she held assignments in the Criminal Division.

During her tenure with the Columbiana County Prosecutor's Office, Bickerton also served as a solicitor for the Village of Lisbon (2015 to 2018). She advised the Village on all legal matters and helped write new legislation associated with its downtown revitalization project.

Her memberships have included the Columbiana County Bar Association, the Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association, the Ohio Bar Association, the Ohio Women's Bar Association, the Ohio Farm Bureau, and the National Rifle Association. She has also been involved with the Beaver Local Schools Foundation (president), the Calcutta Rotary Club, the Jo Ann Davidson Leadership Institute, and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

Born and raised in East Liverpool, Ohio, Bickerton attended Beaver Local High School. She is the daughter of a school teacher at Beaver Local Schools and a steelworker at Weirton Steel. Bickerton was a resident of East Liverpool at the time of her election. Her campaign platform promised to establish a Drug Court in Columbiana County.

She is registered as a Republican.
