Biography

The Hon. Matthew St. George (deceased) served as a commissioner for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. St. George was appointed to the bench in 2009. He passed away on April 19, 2019.


St. George earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree from the University of Southern California. He then completed a J.D. at Loyola Law School in 1979. As a law student, St. George founded the Gay and Lesbian Student Group and sat as president of the Los Angeles Lawyers for Human Rights.


After graduating from law school, St. George entered into private practice as an associate at Harris & Donovan and the Law Offices of Jay Kohon. Then, in 1985, he joined the Office of the Los Angeles City Attorney. During his twenty-four year tenure there, he held assignments as supervisor in the Civil Branch and the Criminal Branch.


His memberships included the Los Angeles City Attorneys Association (vice president), the State Bar Conference of Delegates, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the California Judges Association (secretary) and the California Court Commissioners Association (president).
