Judge Matthew A. Rosenbaum: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Matthew A. Rosenbaum (Ret.) served as a justice on the Monroe County Supreme Court in the 7th Judicial District of New York. Rosenbaum was appointed to the bench by former Governor George Pataki in 2005. He retired at the conclusion of his term on December 31, 2019, and opened Rosenbaum Mediations.

Over the course of his judicial career, Rosenbaum held assignments as the supervising judge for the Civil Term of the 7th Judicial District. He also presided over all lead paint litigation, and he served as a liaison between the Seventh Judicial District and the Statewide Coordinator on Summary Jury Trials.

Rosenbaum earned a B.A. in history and religious studies from Hobart & William Smith College in 1986. He then completed a J.D. at Boston University School of Law in 1989. He was licensed to practice in New York (1991), Ohio (1998), and Pennsylvania (1998).

After graduating from law school, Rosenbaum began his legal career as an associate at Roland, Fogel, Koblenz & Carr. He worked in that capacity until 1993, at which time he joined Sutton, Deleeuw, Clark & Darcy. Then, in 1995, he became a partner at Gray, Feldman & Rosenbaum.

His memberships have included the Monroe County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association. He has also been involved with the Italian American Sports Club, Trout Unlimited, and the Physicians & Attorneys Cooperative Education Program for Monroe County, and he has served on the Monroe County Planning Board, the Town Board of Penfield, and the boards of the Jewish Community Center and the Jewish Community Federation.

He was named Jurist of the Year by the New York State Supreme Court Judges Association (2019).

Rosenbaum was born and raised in western New York. He has served as the president of Congregation Beth Sholom.
