Biography

The Hon. Mary Kay Holthus is a judge for the 8th Judicial District Court of Nevada in Clark County. She was elected to the bench in 2018.

Holthus received a bachelor's degree in economics from the State University of New York at Binghamton. She went on to earn a J.D. from Villanova University, Charles Widger School of Law in 1989. While in law school, Holthus clerked at Rawlings, Olson & Cannon.

She began her legal career as an associate at Jones, Jones, Close & Brown, where she handled civil law issues. Then, in 1991, Holthus entered the public arena as a deputy district attorney with the Clark County District Attorney’s Office. Early on, she practiced general litigation but would eventually join the Crimes Against Women and Children Unit, where she spent sixteen years prosecuting sexual assault, child abuse, and domestic violence cases. During her tenure there, Holthus was later promoted to chief deputy district attorney.

Born in upstate New York, she is married and has three grown children.
