Biography

The Hon. Mary Catherine Marubio is a circuit judge for the Circuit Court of Cook County in Illinois. Marubio was elected to the bench on November 3, 2020.

While on the bench, she was named presiding judge of the Pretrial Division in 2023. Marubio, who has served in the Division since its inception in 2017, was named supervising judge in 2021. She began her judicial career as an associate judge for the Circuit Court of Cook County, following her appointment in 2016. Her other assignments have included the First Municipal and Domestic Relations Division.

Marubio received a B.A. from American University. She then completed a J.D. at DePaul University College of Law in 1996. She was admitted to practice in Illinois (1997).

After graduating from law school, Marubio worked in private practice, where she specialized in criminal defense. She went on to serve as general counsel for the Colombian Consulate.

Prior to her appointment to the bench, Marubio was a prosecutor for the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in 2012. Rising through the ranks there, she was promoted to serve as an administrative law judge in 2014.

She became an adjunct professor at DePaul University College of Law in 2022.

Marubio has served as a member of the Illinois Judicial Ethics Committee since 2016 and joined the Illinois Judges Association Board of Directors the following year. She is also a past president of the Alliance of Illinois Judges and a member of the International Association of LGBTQ+ Judges and the LAGBAC.

Marubio is a registered Democrat.
