Judge Martin Schneier - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Martin Schneier (Ret.) was a justice of the Kings County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the Second Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the bench in 1999 and retired in 2011.

Schneier received a bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College. He went on to earn a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School.

He began his judicial career in 1980 when he was elected to serve as a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York. He remained in that capacity until his election to the Supreme Court bench in 1999.

Prior to joining the bench, he was a partner at Edelstein & Schneier from 1967 to 1979. He also worked as an assistant district attorney with the Kings County District Attorney’s Office from 1966 to 1967.

In 2003, Schneier received a public reprimand from the Commission on Judicial Conduct for the State of New York for alleged misuse of election funds.
