Hon. Martin P. Moltz is an associate judge for the Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois. He was elected to the Circuit Court by the Cook County Circuit judges in 2007.
While on the bench, Moltz has held an assignment in the First Municipal District of the Municipal Department.
He completed a J.D. at the University of Oklahoma Law School in 1969.
Moltz began his legal career as a law clerk with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in 1970 and went on to serve for one year as an assistant state’s attorney after completing his clerkship.
In 1972, Moltz joined the State’s Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor’s Office, where he was named deputy director in 1997. He is known for having argued the greatest number of cases before the appellate court and Supreme Court during his tenure there.
Moltz is also known for his colorful apparel, preferring to wear brightly-colored suits, festive ties, and Hawaiian shirts as opposed to conventional business attire.
Among his hobbies, which include football, bridge, and tennis, Moltz is also a roller coaster enthusiast. As such, he has held memberships with the American Coaster Enthusiasts (legal director), the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain, and the National Amusement Park Historical Association. Moltz, who prefers wooden coasters to those built of steel, also holds the distinction of having ridden every roller coaster in the United States, Canada, England, and Wales.
He taught legal research as an instructor at Roosevelt University.
