Judge Martin J. Bidwill - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Martin J. Bidwill is a judge for the 17th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Broward County. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jeb Bush in 2005.

Bidwill has held assignments in the Civil, Criminal, and Asbestos Litigation Divisions. He also served as an administrative judge and was a former associate judge on the Fourth District Court of Appeals.

Prior to his appointment, Bidwill was a chief assistant federal public defender with the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Southern District of Florida, having joined the office in 1992. Before that, he worked as an assistant state attorney in Broward County for three years.

Bidwill received a B.A. from Wittenberg University in 1987. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Miami School of Law in 1990.

His memberships have included the Broward County chapter of the Federal Bar Association and the past president of the Stephen R. Booher American Inn of Court.

He was named Judge of the Year by the American Board of Trial Advocates (Fort Lauderdale chapter) in 2019.
