Biography

The Hon. Mark L. Tunnell is a judge for the Chester County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. He was elected to the bench on November 8, 2011.

Over the course of his judicial career, Tunnell has presided over civil cases. He has also held assignments in the Orphans’ Court Division.

Tunnell earned a bachelor's degree from Colgate University in 1972. He then completed a J.D. at William & Mary Law School in 1975.

After graduating from law school, Tunnell entered into private practice, specializing in environmental litigation. He spent some of this time as a partner at Gawthrop-Greenwood (West Chester) and Cremers, Morris, Greenwood & Tunnell (Phoenixville).

His memberships have included the Chester County Bar Association (president), the Civil Litigation Section of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges, and the Chester County Bar Foundation (president). He also spent two decades as an editor of the Chester County Law Reporter.

He is registered as a Republican.
