Judge Marjorie L. Carter - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Marjorie L. Carter (Ret.) served as a judge for the Orange County Superior Court in California. Carter was appointed to the Orange County Municipal Court by former Governor George Deukmejian in 1990. She was subsequently elevated to the Orange County Superior Court upon court unification in 1998.

Carter retired from the bench on March 31, 2014, and joined the Assigned Judges Program.

Over the course of her judicial career, she held assignments in the California Trial Court and the Central Municipal Court. She served as Presiding Judge of the Central Municipal Court and the Statewide Court Finance Committee.

Carter earned a bachelor’s degree from Chapman College in 1964. She spent the next several years working as an elementary school teacher before completing a J.D. at Irvine University School of Law in 1979.

After graduating from law school, Carter entered into private practice. She worked as an associate in several law firms, where she specialized in business and corporate law as well as probate matters.

Born in Tennessee, Carter moved to Pasadena, California, with her family.

She is registered as a Republican.
