Biography

The Hon. Mariane Chi Spearman (Ret.) served as a judge for the King County Superior Court in Washington. Spearman was elected to the bench in 2008. She retired in 2018.

Prior to her election, Spearman sat as a judge for the King County District Court (2000 to 2008) and the Kirkland Municipal Court (1995 to 2000). Over the course of her judicial career, Spearman sat as Chief Civil Judge of the King County Superior Court. She also served as a member of the court’s Executive Committee and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee.

Spearman earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Rutgers University in 1981. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Washington School of Law in 1984.

After graduating from law school, Spearman began her legal career as a staff attorney for The Defender Association in 1985. Then, in 1992, she entered into private practice, where she worked as a family law attorney.

Her memberships have included the Minority and Justice Commission and the Initiative for Diversity Governing Council. She also sat as a board member of Childhaven and the American Judicature Society as well as a coordinator for the International District Pro Bono Legal Clinic.
