Biography

The Hon. Maria Aragona is a judge on the Civil Court of the City of New York in Kings County. Aragona was elected to the Civil Court bench on November 3, 2020.

While on the Civil Court, she was promptly designated to an assignment on the Criminal Court of the City of New York in Kings County by Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence K. Marks.

Prior to her election, Aragona served as a judicial law clerk to Hon. Kenneth P. Sherman on the Kings County Supreme Court, a position to which she was named in 2012. Before that, she briefly worked in private practice (2011 to 2012), where she represented clients in domestic violence, family law, and criminal defense matters at her own law firm.

Aragona received a B.S. from St. John's University in 2006. She then completed a J.D. (2009) and an LL.M. (2010) at Hofstra University, Maurice A. Deane School of Law. She was admitted to practice in New York (2011).

Aragona is a past president of the Catholic Lawyers Guild (Diocese of Brooklyn) and of the Confederation of Columbian Lawyer Associations. Her other memberships include the Brooklyn Bar Association, the Columbian Lawyers Association of Brooklyn, the Puerto Rican Bar Association, and the National Italian American Bar Association.

Aragona is registered as a Democrat.
