Biography

Hon. Margaret Holden Palmietto is an associate circuit judge for the 31st Judicial Circuit Court (Division 22) of Missouri. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jay Nixon on November 5, 2015, filling the vacancy created by the appointment of the Hon. Jason R. Brown to circuit judge.

The 31st Judicial Circuit includes Greene County.

During her judicial tenure, Palmietto has presided over criminal hearings, associate and circuit civil cases, landlord-tenant matters, small claims cases, and exparte order of protection review hearings. In addition, she is tasked with approving decisions of the Family Court commissioner in Family Court One.

Prior to her appointment, Palmietto served as an administrative law judge and chief administrative law judge (1994 to 2005 and 2009 to 2015) with the Springfield Adjudication Office of the Missouri Division of Workers’ Compensation.

Before that, she had worked as an assistant prosecuting attorney with the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office (1990 to 1994) and was a former associate at Schroff, Glass & Newberry (1988 to 1990).

Palmietto received a B.A. in history at Missouri State University in 1984. She went on to complete a J.D. at University of Missouri School of Law in 1988.

She was admitted to practice in Missouri (1988) and the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri (1989).

Her memberships have included the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association and the Southern Missouri Women Lawyers Association.

From a civic standpoint, Palmietto has been involved with Kids Chance, the Springfield Ballet, and Friends of the Springfield Greene County Library.

She is married to the Hon. Calvin R. Holden (Ret.), a former circuit judge for the 31st Judicial Circuit Court.
