Biography

The Hon. Manuel I. Arrieta is a judge for the 3rd Judicial District Court of New Mexico. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bill Richardson in 2009, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Robert Robles to the New Mexico Court of Appeals.

The 3rd Judicial District encompasses Doña Ana County. Over the course of his judicial career, Arrieta has held assignments as the Presiding Judge of the Adult Drug Court.

Arrieta earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and economics from New Mexico State University in 1981. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Michigan Law School in 1984.

After graduating from law school, Arrieta entered into private practice. He spent eleven years with the Law Offices of Neil E. Weinbrenner in Las Cruces and five years with the Miller Stratvert Law Offices in Albuquerque before opening his own private practice as a sole practitioner. As a sole practitioner, he specialized in contracts, condemnation, intergovernmental liability, taxation, zoning, and land use matters.

His memberships have included the Hispanic Bar Association and the New Mexico High School Mock Trial Program. He has also been involved with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Young Executives, Voter Protection, and the Las Cruces Homeless Legal Clinic.

Born in Deming, Arrieta was raised in Stahmann Farms alongside his parents, who migrated from Mexico in 1953.
