Judge Maggie Perez-Jaramillo: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Maggie Perez-Jaramillo is an associate judge for the 268th District Court in Fort Bend County, Texas. She was appointed to the bench on January 3, 2023.

Prior to her appointment, Perez-Jaramillo was a judge for the 400th District Court of Texas, a position to which she was named by former Governor Rick Perry in 2016. She filled a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Cliff Vacek.

Perez-Jaramillo earned a J.D. from Texas Southern University, Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 1997.

After graduating from law school, Perez-Jaramillo began her legal career as an assistant county attorney for the Starr County Attorney's Office. She also spent time as an attorney in private practice.

Her memberships have included the Fort Bend County Criminal Defense Attorney's Association and the Fort Bend County Mental Health Board. She has also been a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3903, a volunteer for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and a gatekeeper for the Fort Bend County Fair.

Perez-Jaramillo was the first Latina to serve as a district court judge in Fort Bend County.
