Biography

The Hon. Luis M. Singleterry is a judge for the 92nd District Court in Hidalgo County, Texas. He was elected to the bench in 2014 and re-elected in 2016 and 2020.

Singleterry earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Houston. He then completed a J.D. at Texas Southern University, Thurgood Marshall School of Law, in 1998.

After graduating from law school, Singleterry entered into private practice, where he specialized in criminal defense matters. He was one of the few attorneys in Hidalgo County qualified to represent indigent defendants in death penalty cases. Singleterry supplemented his practice with service as a municipal judge for the City of Pharr.

Singleterry was born and raised in Hidalgo County and graduated from PSJA High School.

He is a registered Democrat.
