Judge Lisa Langton - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Lisa Langton is a judge for the Sixth Circuit Court of Michigan in Oakland County. She was elected to the bench on November 4, 2014.

During her judicial tenure, Langton has presided over the Family Division.

Prior to her election, Langton was a deputy court administrator and juvenile register with the Sixth Circuit Court (2006 to 2014). Before that, Langston had served there as a probate/juvenile register (1998 to 2006) and chief of probate estates (1995 to 1998).

Before joining the court, she practiced as an associate at Williams, Williams, Rattner & Plunkett (1987 to 1995).

She received a B.S. from Ball State University in 1982. Langton went on to complete a J.D. at Detroit College of Law in 1988.

Her memberships have included the Juvenile Justice Association of Michigan, the Women Official Network, the Oakland County Library Board, the Michigan Probate and Juvenile Registers Association (past president), the Michigan State Bar Foundation (Fellow), and the Michigan Inter-Professional Association (board member).

Langton has sat as a member of the Michigan Judges Association Juvenile Competency Legislation Workgroup, the State Court Administrative Office Personal Protection Order Advisory Committee, and the Oakland County Bar Association Family Law and Juvenile Law Committees.

She is also a contributing author to the Michigan Probate Benchbook and has served as a presenter at the Estate and Probate Institute for Continuing Legal Education of the State Bar of Michigan and was a trainer on the Estate and Protected Individuals Code at the Michigan Judicial Institute and Oakland County Bar Association.

Langton received the Esteemed Women of Michigan Award in 2015.
