Judge Lisa E. Rubenstein - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Lisa E. Rubenstein is a court attorney referee for the Dutchess County Supreme Court in the Ninth Judicial District of New York. She came to the position in 2010.

As such, Rubenstein has held an assignment in the Foreclosure Part and presided over Supreme Court trials in divorce cases that are referred from Supreme Court Justices.

Prior to holding these positions, Rubenstein worked as a principal court attorney for the Hon. Valentino T. Sammarco, acting Supreme Court and Dutchess County Family Court judge.

She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Rubenstein then completed a J.D. at Albany Law School in 1985.

After graduating from law school, she began her legal career as a court attorney in the Law Research Department of the Appellate Division, Third Department. Rubenstein then went to work as a private practice attorney, where she specialized in family law and municipal law matters. During that time, she maintained a solo practice for eleven years (1991 to 2003).

Her memberships have included the Dutchess County Bar Association and the Mid-Hudson Women’s Bar Association (past president and director). Rubenstein also served on the Grievance Committee.

In 2013, she made an unsuccessful bid for election to the Dutchess County Family Court.

She is registered as a Democrat.

Rubenstein and her husband, Rick DuVall, have two grown daughters.
