Judge Laura S. Johnson - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Laura S. Johnson (Ret.) was a judge for the 15th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Palm Beach County. She was elected to the bench in 2016, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Jack S. Cox. Johnson retired in 2023.

During her judicial tenure, she is credited with helping to launch the county domestic violence division. Prior to her election, Johnson was a judge for the Palm Beach County Court, a position to which she was named in 2002.

Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Florida State University. She then completed a J.D. at Florida State University College of Law in 1983.

After graduating from law school, Johnson began her legal career as an assistant attorney general in the Florida Office of the Attorney General. However, her time there was brief. Shortly after, she joined the Office of the State Attorney for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit. She spent the next eighteen years as an assistant state attorney, rising through the ranks to become Chief of the Felony Division, Chief of the Domestic Violence Unit, and Supervisor of the DOVE Unit.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Johnson was raised in Palm Beach Gardens, where she attended schools in the Palm Beach County School District. Her husband, Bill, works as a personal injury attorney. They have three children. In her free time, she enjoys boating, fishing, and snorkeling.
