The Hon. Kyle Hawthorne is a judge for the 85th District Court in Brazos County, Texas. He was elected to the bench in 2014 and re-elected in 2018.
Hawthorne earned a B.A. in political science from Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University in 1979. He spent the next year working as a substitute teacher for the South Park Independent School District before joining Enstar Petroleum, Inc. He worked as a property accountant (1981 to 1983) as well as a senior joint interest accountant (1984). He then transferred to the Union Texas Petroleum Company, where he worked as an accountant (1985 to 1986) and a supervisor (1986 to 1987).
Then, in 1986, Hawthorne completed a J.D. at South Texas College of Law. After graduating from law school, he entered into private practice. He first worked as an associate at Vance, Bruchez & Gross, rising through the ranks to become a named partner in 1991.
His memberships have included the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce, the Boys and Girls Club of the Brazos valley, Health for All, and the College Station Planning and Zoning Committee.
Hawthorne was inducted into the Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University Athletics Hall of Fame. During his three seasons playing baseball, Hawthorne helped the team claim SWC titles in 1977 and 1978. He led the team in home runs and RBI during all three seasons.
