Biography

The Hon. Kristine E. Drettwan is a judge for the Walworth County Circuit Court in Wisconsin. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Scott Walker on January 6, 2014, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. John Race.

Prior to her appointment, Drettwan was a family court commissioner for the Walworth County Circuit Court, a position to which she was named in 2010. Before that, she spent time as a circuit court commissioner and an assistant family court commissioner for the court (2005 to 2010).

Drettwan earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Minnesota Law School.

After graduating from law school, Drettwan began her legal career as an assistant district attorney for the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office and the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office, where she handled sexual assault, child abuse, domestic abuse, and animal abuse cases. She served in that capacity until 2003, at which time she became a law clerk to the Walworth County Circuit Court.

She is a recipient of the Outstanding Contributions in the Field of Drug Law Enforcement recognition from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (2000).

Raised in Platteville, Wisconsin, Drettwan attended Platteville High School. When not handling legal matters, she has taught in the police science program at Gateway Technical College.
