The Hon. Kirk H. Nakamura is a judge for the Superior Court of Orange County in California. He was appointed by former governor Gray Davis in October 2001, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Robert Thomas.
Nakamura attended the University of California, Irvine, where he earned a B.S. in biological science in 1977. He then received a J.D. from Duke University School of Law in 1980.
Nakamura began his legal career as an associate with Shield and Smith in 1980. Then, in 1985, he moved to Beam, Brobeck, West & Sullivan, where he worked as an associate and a partner. In these positions, he specialized in public entity law, insurance law, and construction law.
From 2000 to 2001, Nakamura served as Planning Commissioner for Yorba Linda, California. He has also served as President for the Orange County Japanese American Lawyers Association and the Orange County Asian American Bar Association.
He is a recipient of the Outstanding Service Award from the Orange County Asian American Bar Association.
Raised in Orange County, California, Nakamura attended Walt Disney Elementary School, Brookhurst Junior High School, and Savanna High School.
