Biography

The Hon. Kent M. Kellegrew is a judge for the Ventura County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 1999 by former governor Gray Davis.

Judge Kellegrew received his bachelor's degree magna cum laude from California State University, Northridge. He went on to earn his J.D. from Southwestern Law School.

Prior to his appointment to the bench, Kellegrew had served as a court commissioner for the Ventura Municipal Court beginning in 1997. During his time as a commissioner, he presided over traffic arraignment and probate trials.

Before joining the court, Kellegrew had worked as a senior partner at the Oxnard law firm of Nordman, Cormany, Hair, and Compton from 1985 to 1997. While at the firm, he specialized in business litigation.

Kellegrew entered the private arena after serving as a deputy district attorney with the Ventura County District Attorney's Office for two years beginning in 1983, and as a research attorney for the California District Court of Appeal for a brief period in 1982.

During his time on the Superior Court, Judge Kellegrew has served as the assistant presiding judge and the presiding judge of the Civil Division. His other judicial assignments included family law, civil, mental health, probate, conservatorship, guardianship, and criminal.

He has also presided over the Ventura County High School Mock Trial Program.

In 2009, Judge Kellegrew received the Judge of the Year Award from the Ventura County Trial Lawyers Association.

He was also appointed to serve on the board of trustees for the Ventura County Law Library.
