Biography

The Hon. Kenneth J. Powell, Jr. is a judge for the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas in Pennsylvania. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Tom Corbett on June 30, 2012.

Prior to his appointment, Powell presided as a judge for the Philadelphia Municipal Court, a position to which he was appointed in 2009. Powell has also served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Philadelphia County District Attorney’s Office.

Powell earned a bachelor’s degree from La Salle University. He spent the next several years working as a teacher in Philadelphia. During this time, he also worked for the Department of Probation and Parole, rising through the ranks to become Associate Director of the Probation Department and Director of Drug Treatment. He then completed a J.D. at Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law.
