The Hon. Kelly V. Simmons is a judge for the Marin County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2005. She filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Lynn O'Malley Taylor (Ret.).
She is registered as a Republican.
Judge Simmons graduated with her bachelor's degree in criminal justice from San Diego State University. She went on to earn her J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law in 1989.
After graduating from law school, Simmons began her legal career as a deputy district attorney with the Marin County District Attorney's Office in 1990. She remained with the D.A.'s office until being appointed to serve as a court commissioner for the Marin County Superior Court in 2003. She held the position of court commissioner until her elevation to the bench two years later.
During her tenure on the Superior Court, Judge Simmons has served as the Presiding Judge of the Court. She also served as the Supervising Judge of the Criminal Department, where she presided over the Support and Treatment After Release (STAR) Court program.
Judge Simmons was born in Boston, Massachusetts, but her family moved to Los Angeles when she was young.
