Judge Kathleen A. Sigurdson: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Kathleen A. Sigurdson is a judge for the Second Judicial District Court in Washoe County, Nevada. She was elected to the bench in 2020.

Sigurdson received a B.S. (1984) in Recreation Therapy and an M.S. (1986) in Rehabilitation Counseling from San Diego State University. She went on to earn a J.D. from Quinnipiac College in 1998.

After graduating from University, she worked as a Rehabilitation Counselor, serving in this capacity until entering law school.

Upon obtaining her law degree, Sigurdson entered into private practice, initially working as an attorney for an insurance defense firm as well as with other law firms.

In 2002, she entered into solo practice. Early on, her practice focused on bankruptcy, family law, personal injury, and worker’s compensation cases. Later, Sigurdson limited her practice’s scope to focus mainly on personal injury and worker’s compensation law.

She has served on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Rehabilitation Counselors and the Muscular Dystrophy. Sigurdson was also past-president and board member of the Nevada Justice Association’s Convention and the Washoe County Bar Association.

Outside of the courtroom, she enjoys spending time with her beloved horse Cinnamon Tea as well as riding her two geldings. She also has a dog named Manny and a cat named LadyBug.
