Judge Julia Campins - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Julia Campins is a judge for the Contra Costa County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2019. Judge Campins replaced the Hon. Lois Haight Herrington (Ret.) upon her retirement from the bench.

She is registered as a Democrat.

Campins received her bachelor's degree from Columbia College. She went on to earn a J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2005.

Campins served a clerkship with the Hon. Marsha S. Berzon of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from 2005 to 2006 and was an Impact Fund Equal Justice Litigation Fellow from 2006 to 2007. She also served as a board member of the Impact Fund.

After completing her fellowship, Campins joined the law firm of Lewis, Feinberg, Lee, Renaker, and Jackson, P.C., where she practiced as an associate for five years. In 2012, she became the founding partner at Campins Benham-Baker, practicing as a partner there until her appointment to the bench.

While on the Contra Costa County Superior Court, Judge Campins has held an assignment in the Criminal Division.

Her memberships have included the National Employment Lawyers Association, the California Employment Lawyers Association, and the American Bar Association.

At the time of her appointment, Judge Campins resided in Moraga, California.
