Joshua S. Shapiro is a court attorney referee for the Broome County Supreme Court in the Sixth Judicial District of New York. He joined the position in June 2017.
During that same time, Shapiro has acted as special counsel to Administrative Judge Eugene Faughnan.
Before joining the Unified Court System, he worked for six years as a senior assistant district attorney with the Broome County District Attorney’s Office (2011 to 2017). While there, Shapiro held an assignment in the Homicide and Violent Felony Offense Bureau, prosecuting cases involving child abuse homicides and other major felonies against children.
Prior to his time there, he prosecuted misdemeanor and felony cases as an assistant district attorney with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office (2006 to 2011).
Shapiro received a B.A. in history from Binghamton University in 2003. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Richmond School of Law in 2006.
In January 2021, Shapiro announced his candidacy for judge of the Broome County Family Court.
He and his wife, Jen, have two daughters.
