Biography

The Hon. Joseph H. Lorintz is a justice on the Nassau County Supreme Court in the 10th Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the bench on November 8, 2016.

Prior to his election, Lorintz was a principal law clerk to the Hon. Randy Sue Marber of the Nassau County Supreme Court, a position to which he was named in 2007. Before that, he spent time as a sole practitioner (1992 to 2006) as well as a partner at Lorintz & Friedman (1990 to 1992), representing clients in family, criminal, landlord-tenant, real estate, personal injury, bankruptcy, and estate matters.

Lorintz earned a B.A. from Queens College in 1979. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law in 1982. As a law student, he clerked at Axelrod & Hammer (1981 to 1982).

He was licensed to practice in New York (1983).

After graduating from law school, Lorintz began his legal career as an associate in the Law Office of Gary D. Peters. He worked in that capacity until 1984, at which time he joined Axelrod, Cornachio & Famighetti. Then, in 1987, he opened his own private practice as a sole practitioner.

His memberships have included the Jewish Lawyers Bar Association, the Nassau-Suffolk Trial Lawyers Association, the Nassau County Bar Association, and the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association. He has also been involved with the Society to Preserve Underhill, the Long Island Drinking Water Coalition, and the Long Island Environmental Voters Forum, and he has served on the Jericho School Board and the Oyster Bay Environmental Control Commission.

Lorintz is a recipient of the Environmentalist of the Year Award from the Long Island Sierra Club, the Community Service Award from the Jericho/Brookville Lions Club, the Smart Growth Award from Vision Long Island, the Theodore Roosevelt Preservation Award from the Old Westbury College Foundation, and the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Syosset-Woodbury Rotary Club.

He is registered as a Democrat.
