The Hon. Joseph B. Girardi is a judge on the Nassau County Court in the 10th Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the bench on November 7, 2023.
Girardi has held assignments as an acting justice on the Nassau County Supreme Court.
Prior to his election, Girardi was a judge on the Nassau County District Court, a position to which he was appointed by Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano in 2015. Before that, he spent twenty-seven years as a sole practitioner in his own private practice. During his tenure there, he represented clients in criminal defense matters, supplementing his practice with service as an assistant town attorney for the Town of Oyster Bay (2007 to 2014).
Girardi earned a B.A. in political science and American history from the State University of New York at Oneonta in 1981. He then completed a J.D. at Georgetown University Law Center in 1984. He was licensed to practice in New York (1985).
After graduating from law school, Girardi began his legal career as an assistant district attorney in the Queens County District Attorney’s Office. He served in that capacity until 1988, holding assignments as a supervisor of the Felony Screening Part.
His memberships have included the National Rifle Association and the Syosset Baseball Association. He has also served as a consultant and an advisor to the Chiller Theatre Horror Convention.
He is registered as a Republican.
