Biography

The Hon. John P. Pappas is an associate justice on the Massachusetts Superior Court. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Charlie Baker on April 6, 2022.

Pappas earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1982. He then completed a J.D. at New England Law | Boston in 1993. He was licensed to practice in Massachusetts (1993).

After graduating from law school, Pappas began his legal career as an assistant district attorney with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. In that capacity, he held assignments in the Homicide Unit, the Senior Trial Unit, and the Gang Unit. Then, in 2018, he was named interim district attorney.

His memberships have included the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Reading Program and Lee Elementary School. He has also volunteered as a coach with Parkway Youth Sports.

He is a recipient of the William C. O’Malley Prosecutor of the Year Award from the Massachusetts District Attorneys Association (2016).

Pappas is the son of Greek immigrants.
