Biography

Hon. John M. Holcomb is a judge for the Butler County Court of Common Pleas (Probate Division) in Ohio. He was elected to the bench in 2020.

Holcomb received a B.A. from Miami University in 1988. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 1991.

Holcomb was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the Ohio Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, and the United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Prior to his election, Holcomb practiced as an attorney at Holcomb & Hyde LLC. In addition, his legal career included working for seven years as an assistant prosecuting attorney with the Butler County Prosecutor’s Office (1993 to 2000).

Holcomb also represented indigent clients charged with felony crimes in Federal Court as a member of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio CJA Panel (2001 to 2006).

His memberships have included the Washington Lodge #17 F. & A.M., the Scottish Rite, Valley of Cincinnati, the Sons of the American Revolution, the National Rifle Association, and the Middletown Sportsmen’s Club.

Holcomb graduated from Stephen T. Badin High School. At the time of his election, he resided in Hamilton with his wife, Karen, and their two children. He is a member of St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church.

Holcomb is registered as a Republican.
