Judge John M. Allegretti - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. John M. Allegretti is a judge for the Cook County Circuit Court in Illinois. He was elected to the Circuit Court in 2014 and was retained in subsequent elections.

While on the bench, he has held an assignment in the Non-Jury Civil Section of the First Municipal District of the Municipal Department.

Allegretti received a B.A. from the University of Illinois in 1991. He went on to complete a J.D. at St. Thomas University School of Law in 1995.

Prior to joining the bench, Allegretti was general counsel to the Cook County Treasurer’s Office. In addition, his legal career included serving as general counsel for the Cook County Assessor, an assistant state’s attorney with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, a hearing officer for the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board, and as an attorney in private practice.

Allegretti is registered as a Democrat.
