Judge John F. Shrode - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. John F. Shrode is a judge for the 358th District Court of Texas in Ector County. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Greg Abbott in December 2020.

Shrode received a B.B.A. in marketing from Texas Tech University (1986) and an M.A. in counseling from the University of Texas Permian Basin (1994). In 2000, he completed a J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law.

His legal career included stints in both the public and private sectors. In the public arena, Shrode worked for eleven years as an assistant district attorney with the El Paso District Attorney’s Office before joining the Ector County District Attorney’s Office in 2015. In 2019, he entered into solo practice at his own law firm, where he remained until his appointment to the bench.

His memberships have included the State Bar of Texas and the U.S. District Court for the Western District. Shrode is a volunteer Judo assistant coach with the Boys and Girls Club in Odessa.
