Biography

The Hon. John F. McGregor is a judge for the Santa Barbara County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2012. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. James W. Brown (Ret.).

He is registered decline-to-state.

Judge McGregor received his B.A. from Fairfield University. He went on to earn his J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law.

McGregor would spend the majority of his legal career in private practice. He first worked as an associate for Smith and Smith from 1981 to 1982 and for the Law Offices of Jan Mark Dudman from 1982 to 1983 before entering into solo practice. Three years later, he joined Klein and Cutler as an associate until re-entering solo practice in 1990. During his time as a sole practitioner, he also served as a partner at the North County Conflict Defense Team from 1997 to 2003.

Then, in 2004, McGregor was selected by the Santa Barbara County Superior Court judges to serve as a court commissioner. He remained in that capacity until his appointment to the bench in 2012.

McGregor was born in Poughkeepsie, New York. At the time of his appointment to the Superior Court, Judge McGregor was residing in Arroyo Grande, California.
