The Hon. John E. Garland is an associate justice of the Boston Municipal Court in Massachusetts. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Charlie Baker on February 4, 2021.
Garland earned a bachelor’s degree from Boston College. He spent the next several years working as a project coordinator for the O’Connell Management Corporation (1984 to 1993) and an owner’s representative for SAR Engineering, Inc. (1993 to 1996) before completing a J.D. at New England Law-Boston.
After graduating from law school, Garland entered into private practice, opening the Law Office of John Garland in Quincy. He owned and operated the firm for more than twenty-four years, handling family law, criminal defense, municipal zoning, and permitting matters.
His memberships have included the Board of the Suffolk Lawyers for Justice, the Quincy Zoning Board of Appeals (chairman), and the Norfolk County Bar Association (president). He also volunteered as an organizer for the Saint Mary of the Hills Shattuck Shelter Feeding Program.
