Judge John C. Schlesinger - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. John C. Schlesinger (Ret.) served as a judge for the 11th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida in Miami-Dade County. Schlesinger joined the bench in 2005. He retired in 2020.

Schlesinger earned a B.A. from Boston College in 1982. He then completed a J.D. at Suffolk University Law School in 1987.

After graduating from law school, Schlesinger began his legal career as an assistant United States attorney in the Office of the United States Attorney. During his tenure there, he served as Special Counsel to the United States Attorney as well as Deputy Chief of the Major Crimes Division.

In 1999, Schlesinger entered into private practice, joining Clarke Silverglate as an attorney. His time there was brief. The following year, he returned to the Office of the United States Attorney, where he served in the National Security Section until joining the bench.

His memberships have included the Board of Directors of Camp Fiesta Children’s Cancer Caring Center and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami. He has also served as a mentor at St. Thomas University’s Law School.

Schlesinger is married to the Hon. Marilyn Milian, a former judge of the Miami-Dade County Circuit Court as well as a TV judge for “The People’s Court.” He is a member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church.
