Biography

Hon. Jody M. Luebbers is a judge for the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas (General Division) in Ohio. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Ted Strickland in June 2008 to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Alex M. Triantafilou (Ret.).

During her judicial tenure, Luebbers was elected the presiding and administrative judge of the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas General Division in 2021.

Luebbers received a B.A. in public administration from Miami University in 1985. She then spent the next four years working as a full-time law clerk and constable for the Hon. Robert Gorman and the Hon. Richard Niehaus with the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas (1986 to 1990) before completing a J.D. at Northern Kentucky University, Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 1990.

After graduating from law school, Luebbers worked for eight years as an assistant prosecuting attorney in the Juvenile, Municipal and Common Pleas Courts with the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office. During her time as a prosecutor, she tried cases ranging from speeding tickets and thefts to domestic violence, rape, and capital murder.

Luebbers left the public sector in 1999 to practice as an associate in the Cincinnati law firm of Fox & Fox Co. LPA (1999 to 2005), where she gained experience in civil litigation and criminal defense work and handled workers’ compensation cases, personal injury cases, social security claims, and unemployment hearings.

Then, in 2005, Luebbers returned to the Prosecuting Office, this time working as the chief assistant prosecuting attorney of the Municipal Court Division. She remained in that capacity until her appointment to the bench in 2008.

Her memberships have included the Cincinnati Bar Association and the Hamilton County Police Chiefs Association (representative).

Luebbers was born and raised in Cincinnati and is a graduate of Ursuline Academy in Blue Ash. A third-generation judge, her great uncle, the Hon. Al Luebbers, presided as a judge in Hamilton County for thirty-seven years, and her father, the Hon. Joseph Luebbers, was a judge for the Hamilton County Municipal Court for thirty years.

Luebbers is married and has two children. She has served as a Sunday school teacher, Girl Scout co-leader, and PTO committee member. Her family attends All Saints Parish.

Luebbers is registered as a Democrat.
