Judge Jerry L. Holcomb: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Jerry L. Holcomb is an associate circuit judge for the 29th Judicial Circuit Court (Divison VI) of Missouri. He was elected to the bench in 2018.

The 29th Judicial Circuit Court includes Jasper County.

Prior to his election, Holcomb presided for twelve years as a family court commissioner, having held the position since 2006. Before that, he worked in both the private and public sectors. During that time, Holcomb was an assistant prosecuting attorney in Newton County (1981 to 1984), a partner at Collins, Webster & Rouse, P.C. (1985 to 2006), and an assistant prosecuting attorney with the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's Office (1999 to 2006).

He also taught as an adjunct instructor at the Missouri Southern State University Police Academy.

He received a bachelor’s degree from Pittsburg State University in 1975. Holcomb went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Tulsa College of Law in 1978. He was admitted to practice in Missouri (1978) and Oklahoma (1978).

After graduating from law school, he began his legal career as an attorney with Legal Aid of Western Missouri, where he remained until 1981.

Holcomb was a past director of the Missouri Association of Probate and Associate Circuit Judges. He also served on the Supreme Court Family Court Committee, Juvenile Standards Work Group Subcommittee, and the Child Support Guidelines Work Group Subcommittee.

From a civic standpoint, Holcomb was a board member of the Children’s Haven of Southwest Missouri and the Joplin Little Theatre.

Holcomb was born in Lamar, Missouri, where he attended Lamar High School. He is a married father of two children and three step-children. Holcomb belongs to St. Paul’s Methodist Church of Joplin.
