Biography

The Hon. Jeffrey P. Kilgore is a judge for the Vermont Superior Court. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Peter Shumlin on July 13, 2012, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. George Belcher.


Kilgore has held an assignment in the Probate Division in Washington County.


Prior to his appointment, he worked as a private practice attorney, specializing in real estate, tax, trusts and estates, and corporate law matters. In addition to his practice, Kilgore taught as an associate professor of business and economics at Norwich University, was special counsel to the Department of Public Service, and served for nine years as town moderator for the Waterbury town meetings.


He received a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University and a master’s degree in economics and taxation from Michigan State University (1975). Kilgore then completed a J.D. at Vermont Law School (1978) and an LL.M. in taxation from Boston University School of Law (1988).


He is registered as a Democrat.
