Judge Jeffrey A. Goodstein: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Jeffrey A. Goodstein is a judge on the New York State Court of Claims. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Andrew Cuomo in 2012.

Over the course of his judicial career, Goodstein has held assignments as an acting justice on the Nassau County Supreme Court, a position to which he was designated in 2012. During his tenure there, he sat as the supervising judge of the Matrimonial Center.

Goodstein earned a B.F.A. from Ithaca College in 1989. He later completed a J.D. at Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, in 1997. He was licensed to practice in New York (1998).

After graduating from law school, Goodstein began his legal career as an associate at Rubin, Cooper & Burns. He worked in that capacity for one year, supplementing his practice with service as an attorney for the Nassau County Department of Social Services.

Goodstein joined the New York State Unified Court System in 1998. He remained there for the next fourteen years, holding assignments as a court attorney with the Nassau County Family Court (1998 to 2000), a principal law clerk to the Hon. Kenneth A. Davis (2000 to 2008) and the Hon. Anthony Marano (2008 to 2010) on the Nassau County Supreme Court, and a court attorney referee with the Nassau County Supreme Court (2010 to 2012).

His memberships have included the Nassau County Bar Association, the Nassau County Women’s Bar Association, the Jewish Lawyers of Nassau County, and the New York State Bar Association. He has also been involved with the Fireman’s Association of the State of New York and the Rockville Centre Fire Department, and he has served on the board of trustees of Congregation B’nai Sholom - Beth David.

He is a resident of Rockville Centre, New York.
