The Hon. Jeff Almquist (deceased) served as a judge for the Superior Court of Santa Cruz County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former governor Gray Davis in 2003, filling a vacancy created by the elevation of the Hon. Richard McAdams to the Sixth District of the California Court of Appeal.
Almquist earned a B.A. from Yale University. He also completed a J.D. from the University of Connecticut Law School as well as an M.B.A. from San Jose State University.
He began his legal career in private practice, specializing in business law and bankruptcy litigation from 1976 to 1996. He was then elected to the Board of Supervisors of Santa Cruz County, where he represented the Fifth District. During his tenure there, he created the Environmental Health Task Force. He also served on the Regional Transportation Commission and the Library Board.
Almquist was born in Glen Ridge, New Jersey on August 19, 1948. While at Yale University, he was frat brothers with former President George W. Bush.
Almquist passed away unexpectedly while vacationing in Lyon, France on October 7, 2018.
